Driving through Jeffrey City should be part of any trip down highway 287, as
it is one of the most interesting ghost towns you'll ever see. Jeffrey City
is a uranium boom town, and before the arms treaties of the 1980s, the
subsequent end of the cold war, and the decline of nuclear power in the US,
the town had a population near 6,000 people. Over 99% of that
population is now gone, but the streets and apartment buildings remain.
